CompEx Ex F Foundation Course
The CompEx Ex F Foundation course is an introductory, theory-based training module designed to provide a basic understanding of working safely in potentially explosive or flammable atmospheres. This course focuses on awareness-level knowledge rather than hands-on technical skills, making it suitable for anyone who needs to understand the principles of hazardous area safety.
The Ex F Foundation qualification is intended for individuals who may work in or around explosive atmospheres but are not directly involved in installing, maintaining, or inspecting electrical equipment. This includes supervisors, managers, engineers, designers, safety officers, and other non-technical personnel who need foundational knowledge of hazardous environments. There are no formal entry requirements, although familiarity with technical concepts is beneficial.

Ex01-Ex04 Gas & Vapors
The CompEx Ex01–Ex04 Gas & Vapours course is a comprehensive, practical and theory-based qualification designed for electrical and instrumentation personnel who work in hazardous areas where explosive gases or vapours may be present. The Ex01–Ex04 course focuses on ensuring that technicians and engineers understand the requirements for the safe selection, installation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical equipment used in potentially explosive gas environments. This course consists of classroom-based theoretical practical training (50%) and practical assessment and written examination.
This qualification is intended for craftspersons, technicians, and engineers who are involved in hands-on work within hazardous areas—typically in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and utilities. Candidates should already have a recognized background in electrical or instrumentation work and be familiar with relevant electrical principles and standards before undertaking this course. The training is structured to provide both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to comply with international standards such as IEC 60079 and the European ATEX directives.

Ex12 Application Design Engineers
The CompEx Ex12 Application Design Engineers Course is an advanced qualification within the CompEx certification scheme, specifically developed for design engineers and technical professionals responsible for creating or verifying electrical systems used in hazardous areas. Unlike the practical, technician-focused modules, the Ex12 course emphasizes the theoretical and design aspects of explosion protection, ensuring that engineers can produce compliant and safe designs for installations where explosive gases, vapours, or dusts may be present. It provides a detailed understanding of how to apply international standards and best practices—such as IEC 60079 series and ATEX directives—during the design, specification, and documentation phases of a project.
This course is aimed at experienced electrical, instrumentation, and control engineers who are involved in the design, selection, and management of Ex equipment and systems. It focuses on equipping candidates with the competence to design electrical installations that are both technically sound and compliant with hazardous area classification requirements. Participants learn how to interpret and apply equipment certification, select appropriate protection concepts, and design intrinsically safe systems while considering factors such as cable selection, segregation, earthing, and environmental protection.
